Sinus Infection & Cold Tactics:

Part 1: What I do for both colds & sinus infections.
Part 2: What else I do if it's a cold or virus.
Part 3: What I do to avoid getting sick.

Part 1

Daniel: "You've has some severe colds in the past that turned into bigger problems, but now you seem to do better much than before.  Tell me about it."

Angie:  "Every time I got a cold, it hit me hard putting me in bed for weeks and always turned into a sinus and lung infection. Sometimes I'd get  sinus infections without the cold, and they always turned into bronchitis and lung infections. I now do this process I'm going to describe and it has drastically cut down the number,  length and severity of colds, and the sinus infections rarely develop or last like they did, thank God!

At the first sign of a cold or sinus infection, I take oral supplements, sinus flushes (the recipe is below), nebulized colloidal silver & nebulized glutathione, and ozone treatments.

Oral supplements:  I follow several of the protocols for infection described in a little more detail than below on this page here.  I attack infection from an systemic standpoint as well as through the sinuses.  I find this makes a difference for me in the healing of my sinuses as well as with avoiding further complications.

Here's what I take:   (These things are explained in greater detail on the dealing with infections page.)

Oxy-powder This stuff has been AMAZING for me.  Although Oxy-Powder is marketed as a colon cleanser, I use it as a key component in my infection fighting routine.  Not only did I find it to be a great colon cleansing product, but it really helpful to increase the oxygen in my system to fight infection. It has also increased my energy and reduced my chronic pain.  I learned that oxygen approaches are used in the holistic, alternative health community to fight viruses, bacteria, etc. This is the link to the site that sells it HERE.  This is the link to the article I wrote on what it did for me and how I use it HERE.

Ozone - I use it to further increase my oxygen levels.  I particularly do this in my ears when my sinuses are involved. In fact, I recently used it for a virus/sinus thing.  I started to feel miserable. My sinuses were dripping, I had diarrhea and my stomach felt queasy, I was getting hot and cold, I felt weak and fatigued. My family is getting together today and my nephews are in from out of state and I didn't want to miss this.  I did everything on the infection/cold page, but those things take a little time to kick in.  I decided to try ozone, and now I feel just about back to normal.  That took about 45 minutes.  I'm amazed myself!  (See the oxygen protocol page for more info on how Angie uses oxygen approaches to deal with infections, viruses, pain, and as a part of her protocol for getting healthy.  This is the link to ozone machine resources.)

Olive leaf (East Park) - 2 capsules 3-4 times per day. I use this for the antiviral/bacterial/fugal effects.  It is my understanding that this product is created in a way that makes it highly potent and effective.  From my research, this appears to me to be the olive leaf of choice for many health pros. This is the only one I use. (Here is the East Park site link with detailed info on why it works and what it does:  East Park  If you are buying, it's much cheaper through Amazon.com from than from East Park directly.  Please follow the product link in here. )

Goldenseal root caps - 2 caps 3 times a day.  I find that this is a really effective as an anti-bacterial for me.  I stick to the root as it's stronger.

Colloidal Silver - 3 times a day if the problem is not severe, or as often as every hour if it is.  Colloidal silver is something I would not want to be without. I have found this to be one of the most powerful things I've used.  I hold it under my tongue for 30-60 seconds before swallowing.  (Please see the colloidal silver article, or see links to sites with colloidal silver products here. )  i also do nebulized silver.  See that info on the infection page.

CL02 - a dropper full in a glass of water every couple of hours. I find this really helps me with fungal and bacterial infections.  A live blood cell analysis consultant I know uses it for parasites as well. He said he sees very good results in the follow-up blood tests.

Vitamin C - I take as much as I can tolerate, which is 2-3000 mg every two hours.  If you take too much you can have diarrhea.  I take it until my stomach starts to say to quit.  I always use it in the form of Ester-C, which has buffers added to make it more alkaline. Vitamin C is very acidic and can be irritating.  Ester-C works well for me without the irritation.

Sinus Flush:  This is essential for me.  I do this several times each day.  I make this solution and flush my sinuses several times per day.  I take a dropper bottle and mix the following:

- 1/2 distilled water

- A few pinches of sea salt (finding the right amount takes practice as too much can burn, and if I have too little in the mixture I find I choke on the mucus. The right amount of salt seems to pull the mucus through and makes it easier to expel.)

- I usually add a few drops of liquid grapefruit seed extract.   This is something I use with bacterial/fungal/parasitic infections.  I use this in every formula for infection.

- I sometimes add CL02.  This stuff has been highly effective for me against bacteria & fungus.  I use it in almost any formula for infection.

I Mix the ingredients well, and then standing over the sink, I squirt the fluid up into my nostrils, inhaling slightly to pull it through the sinuses. The mucus comes into the back of my throat and I then spit it out.  I DO NOT SWALLOW THIS. The idea is to get the mucous and pathogens out of the body.  I keep doing this until there is pretty much nothing coming out.  It feels really weird at first, but I believe that this has saved me from escalating problems and antibiotics too many times to count.

I used to use colloidal silver in the sinus mix. However I've been hearing that by mixing it with other things, it changes it and can make it weaker.  So I am now, separate from the sinus flush, using pure silver in my sinuses. Please see the article on silver.  This stuff is something that I feel has helped me overcome infections and avoid antibiotics over and over again.  My colloidal silver generator is something I would not want to be without.  It is easy to use, inexpensive to buy and it saves me a ton of money to make my own.   If can't access my own silver maker, I use a pre-made brand called Sovereign Silver.

Part 2

Colds - What I add if I have a cold or virus that impacts my sinuses.

Even if I don't have a sinus infection, if I have a cold, I do all of the above. I also nebulize glutathione. See that info in the lung infection section HERE.  I also take the following:

Sambucol unsweetened syrup every two hours.

Zicam nasal gel - every few hours.  This stuff is amazing.  This makes a radical difference.  It's something you get in the drug store, but from what I understand it works because you are coating the sinuses with zinc.  It's been tested and has statistics to back up the effectiveness.  I either won't get the cold at all, or it will be much shorter and less harsh if I start this stuff right away.  After I do the sinus flush, I apply Zicam to my nostrils.

I Drink Plenty of pure water.  If I could I would put fresh lemon juice in the water.  I have a bladder situation with interstitial cystitis so I can't do this. I would drink it cold as well as hot as a tea. Although lemon is acidic, it helps your body to be more alkaline, which makes in more inhospitable for viruses, bacteria and parasites.

Raw Garlic Cloves - I can't do this because it's harsh on my stomach, but it can be very powerful to eat raw garlic cloves.  I'm told the pills have far less impact.  Some folks swear by this.

Zinc - usually in divided doses.  I keep it under 100 mg, as it is my understanding that anything above that can actually suppress your immune system.

Tips:

Personally, I avoid Echinacea, as I've been told that if you have allergies, it can activate the part of your immune system responsible for them and make them worse.

I avoid glandulars, as I was told by an immunologist that if your body acts with allergy towards the glandular, it can then begin attacking your own corresponding gland.

I Avoid sugar - that's a good rule of thumb anyway.  When I'm fighting any kind of infection, I avoid sugar like the plague.  It can suppress your immune system and I need all the immune system I can get!

I avoid dairy when I'm congested.  It adds mucus to the system and can make things worse.

I read that you can put peroxide in the ear to stop a cold.  I tried it and had an earache for a week.  Some folks swear by it, and insist that doing this will knock out  a cold quickly.  I've placed a link to an article that describes that process on the resources page here.

I do my best to rest.  I don't exercise but allow my body to use it's resources to fight infection."

Part 2

How I avoid catching colds, viruses & the flu.

Daniel: "Can you avoid catching things from others when people are sick everywhere you go?"

Angie: " Well, I think you can reduce your chances of getting sick.  There are some things that are commonly known like some germs are passed by contact.  If you have to shake, then avoid rubbing your eyes, nose & ears until you can wash.  Avoid shaking hands all together if you can.

I would say that during cold and flu season you may wish to avoid rubbing your face and ears all together in public places. Germs can live on a door knob, or anything else someone sick made contact with.

Still you can't avoid airborne germs and you probably can't even avoid all contaminated surfaces.  When I know I've been exposed, or even when I know I'm going to be in places where I could be exposed during the season, I take several things before going.  (I always keep a supply of these things in the house just in case!)

I take the olive leaf and Vitamin C three times a day before had so it can work in a preventative way in my system.  I take the Oxy-Powder every night anyway, but I might add an extra capsule to increase the oxygen in my body.

If I'm sure I've been exposed, I don't wait for symptoms.   I add the goldenseal, sambucol, CL02, and if it's possibly a cold I start the Zicam nasal gel. I actually do the sinus flush if someone was sneezing or hacking around me, to clean out my sinuses.

I use the ozone anyway, but I might go longer with it if I feel I've been exposed.

I find this has helped me resist things better.  Of course working on your general health is important.  Good diet, exercise, a balanced life and supplements to support health are all important for having optimal resistance."
