Articles on this site reflect the
experiences of my wife, Angie. The info below is the
result of my interviewing her, and then posting the interview with
the corresponding resources and links on this site. We hope
this helps you conduct your own research on your unique path to
wellness. Please enjoy! Daniel & Angie.
Daniel: "Angie, vertigo was one of the worst things you
experienced. What have you found that helps?"
Angie: "Yeah, it is just horrible when it's happened.
It was room spinning that wouldn't stop and extreme nausea.
Now there are people with clearly defined problems that
are treatable. It's important to see doctors to be evaluated.
I would not self treat until I knew what was wrong, or got things
ruled out, as there are many potential causes of vertigo.
I went from doctor to doctor and they couldn't identify
a cause. The prescribed drugs like Antivert or Dramamine which didn't do anything
for me. I suffered badly. I know there are many folks
out there with the same problem, so I wanted to share what's helped.
Over time, and by accident, I found two main things
that have helped, and one other thing that has been supportive. I
would also like to share a link to a post I found written on the
connection between TMJ and vertigo (Click
here for that.)
Hydrocortisone: I was put on a low dose of Hydrocortisone
by an alternative doctor for sluggish adrenals. While I think it
was a major mistake to be on it on a regular basis, even on a tiny
dose, I found it actually could stop the vertigo. A one time
dose of 19 - 20 mg
of Hydrocortisone taken at once could reverse it maybe 90% - 95% in
a couple of hours. I currently am on 3 mg a day of
hydrocortisone, which helps keep it at bay.
My feeling is that it's not a good thing to take daily
or frequently
(see this info), but when I
weigh it with the quality of life issue, I choose to use it as I
need it, with my doctors' approval.
By the way, when I took bigger doses, it created
serious complications. I try to keep the dose as low as
possible to stop the vertigo.
Salt & vitamin C: Last year I began Salt/vit C therapy for Lyme disease. I discovered that the salt actually stopped the
vertigo. I found that if I forgot my salt doses, by the next day I
got hit with vertigo. But if I take it regularly, It keeps it away.
It's helped me cut back on hydrocortisone use.
I don't really know why it works, and my doctors don't
either. Some theories are that it impacts my inner ears somehow, or
that it supports my adrenals. Another possibility is that the
vertigo was created by the Lyme but and the salt/C has helped with
that. It may be something else altogether.
Salt/C has to be taken very carefully. You can't just use any salt,
or take it without knowing what your'e doing. It has to be done
correctly or it can create serious issues.
(Here is
a site with info for salt/C use for Lyme, but it has the info
for anyone to use it)".
Ozone: When I
have had vertigo I have used ozone insufflation in my ears and
I drink ozone water. It is not as high impact as the salt/C and
Hydrocortisone for the problem, but it does seem to help."
